Quotidian Project Proposal

For my project, I would like to focus on the conversations I hear throughout my day and various words I see. I want to use the world around me as inspiration. My plan is to write a haiku, at least every three days, based on what speaks to me as I go along my daily activities. A haiku is a stylized poem made of seventeen syllables organized in three lines of five, seven and five. To create these poems, I will write them using my colored pens, which will also incorporate a second element of art into the theme and tone of the words.

Poetry is powerful and beautiful to me so I would love to practice my skill and make the world around me become a playground for my own ideas and art. One of my favorite poets, who is my muse for this project, is Linda Pastan. Her own work tends to center around personal understanding, relationships, nature and dreams. Much like Pastan, my focus for this project will be to represent the truth in life, whether it be positive or negative, and to have a unique, personal outlook on what I witness and experience.
