‘Alternative Facts’ Read and Respond
This article opens the readers’ eyes to the corruption and
confusion around the Trump administration by stating, “Trump was a historically
dishonest presidential candidate” (Graham). I am so frustrated by recent
politics since people are constantly told contradictory facts, making it hard
to know what to believe and what not to. The article continues to explain how
Trump insisted to have written his own speech for the inauguration even when it
was proven later that his advisors wrote it. This lie went as far as to the
publication of a staged photo just to support the story. As a millennial, it is
hard for me to fathom how citizens can still strongly support Trump after all
the harm and lies he has already caused this nation.
With the development and influence of the internet in
society, these ‘alternative facts’ are easier to fabricate and spread to the
masses. For this reason, it is dangerous to read about the news since no one
can be sure of the reality behind the Trump Administration. This issue relates
to “My So-Called Opinions” article because millennials are trapped in a
perpetual state of being lied to about politics yet ridiculed for not staying
informed. Graham poses a question to Trump, enquiring that if he lies on a
small scale now, it might only cause for more skepticism about what he says
later on about bigger issues. It’s challenging for millennials to have a firm
grasp on Trump’s proposals when he has a history of lying to his people. Overall
this essay has proven that American’s shouldn’t always trust the facts they
hear, especially relating to Trump, and should try to find multiple sources in
order to become well educated, active citizens.
